Status: NEW OLD STOCK

You are looking at a pre-owned 1981 Olivo Padaukwood handmade, neck-thru-body, exotic wood electric bass guitar.  We acquired this instrument in 1981 and it has languished here for 25 years...  It plays great, sounds incredible and looks marvelous...  Nothing but the best of materials here!!!

The luthier who designed and built this bass as well as others and similarly styled guitars is a native of South America...  During this period, he was based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada...  His name, no surprise, is Olivo, but whether this is his first name or last name or even 'nick-name' is not clear... There is some mystery about Olivo...exactly WHAT is his country, region and city of origin?  His full name?  And what became of him?  I see a few stories, guesses and rumors on line...  I had the pleasure of meeting and doing business with him on several occasions...

What is a fact, is that for some time in the 1970's, he worked for Joe Kovasic building Lado, sometimes known as J. K. Lado, guitars and basses in Toronto...  Some of you may recognize a certain similarity between the early Lado instruments and Olivo's... Then, wanting to focus on the care and hand craftsmanship of building fine instruments AND distaining fast, mass production factory methods, he struck out on his own, building and marketing his own instruments. The delicate design, the best of materials and the finest of hand craftsmanship were his trademarks...  Excellent instruments were his art!!!   Sometime later, called by family affairs, events and responsibilities, Olivo returned to his native South America...

Here are some of this Olivo's features: Solid Padauk wood (also known as Vermillion wood) body, three piece laminated (Maple, both Birdseye and Tiger Striped and Padauk wood) neck-thru-body design, Padauk headstock cap, Rosewood finger board with nine(9) unique inlays, Bartolini Active Humbucking Pickups, Custom Olivo Electronics, Gold Grover Machine Heads, Gold Badass Bridge and an Eagle body and headstock motif (a South American cultural symbol for Good Luck).
